This is part of Facebook’s advertising empire if you will.
In this press release from Facebook’s newsroom, they state that targeted ads and tracking is a good thing! In some circumstances we really love it. But my god, everywhere I go online now shows up on Facebook to redirect me to my past surfing.
There is a way to get away from ‘some’ of this. You can’t opt-out entirely, but you can at least lessen the amount of Big Brother occurrences by updating your privacy settings on Facebook.
Here is how to opt-out:
- Open Facebook and click the down arrow in the upper right corner and go to Settings, then click Ads on the left menu.
- Look for “Ads on apps and websites off of the Facebook Companies.”
- Click Edit and change your preference to No.
While you’re making this change, you can also turn off the settings for “Ads based on my use of websites and apps” and “Ads with my social actions” if you want to.
